Health and safety law 2016

Chapter 5

Legislation covering particular industries

[ch 5: page 91]

In addition to the Workplace Regulations, there are a number of regulations that apply to certain types of high-risk workplaces and industries including mines and quarries, offshore and nuclear installations, docks and ports, agriculture, construction sites, and the civil aviation, maritime and railway industries. These regulations contain specific health, safety and welfare requirements relating to the hazards in those workplaces and industries. The HSE website contains detailed guidance on the applicable regulations by sector, which can be accessed via the Worker Involvement pages on the HSE website (www.hse.gov.uk/guidance/industries.htm).

Health and safety law on the railways is enforced by the Office of Road and Rail (ORR) and its website (http://orr.gov.uk/what-and-how-we-regulate/health-and-safety) provides further information on this sector.
