Guardian’s Allowance

If you are looking after a child or children, both of whose parents have died (or if one has died and the other is absent for some other specified reason), and you are entitled to Child Benefit for the child/children, you could qualify for an additional Guardian’s Allowance of £16.35 a week for each child.

Guardian’s Allowance is a tax-free payment and isn’t counted as income for other benefits. However, it counts towards the Benefit Cap (see page 14).
