Women's health and safety at work - a guide for union reps

Chapter 1

A gender-sensitive approach is also important for male workers

[ch 1: page 9]

The TUC is clear that looking at gender issues helps both men and women. It points out that men also come in various shapes and sizes and often have similar problems with ill-fitting PPE. They are also less likely to seek help when they experience an occupational illness, especially depression or anxiety caused by workplace stress.

The TUC also points to specific risks to men’s health. For example, some chemical exposures can affect men’s libido, fertility or sexual performance and their ability to father healthy children. Some can cause cancer of male reproductive organs.
