Promoting equality for disabled workers - a guide for trade union reps

Chapter 6

Disability leave

Disability leave is time off from work for a reason related to someone’s disability. Employers must make reasonable adjustments for disabled people, and the Equality and Human Rights Commission recommends disability leave as an example of a reasonable adjustment. Many organisations already have disability leave in some form and unions, the TUC and disabled peoples’ organisations are campaigning for it to be an explicit legal right.
