ICO guidance on in-vehicle monitoring
[ch 3: page 31]The ICO Employment Practices Code contains guidance on in-vehicle monitoring. It suggests that employers should consider, preferably using an impact assessment, whether the benefits justify the adverse impact of using in-vehicle monitoring.
It states that where private use of the vehicle is allowed, monitoring vehicle movements when used privately will rarely be justified without the user’s consent. And it suggests that a privacy button or similar arrangement should be provided, so that monitoring can be disabled during both business and private use (unless the employer is legally obliged to continue monitoring the vehicle during private use).
