Inflation remains well above 4%

Higher petrol prices at the pumps as well as the rising cost of buying a car have combined to increase the rate of inflation in November. As measured by the retail prices index, inflation rose to 4.3%, 0.1 percentage points higher than in the previous month.

Growth in the consumer prices index, which excludes housing costs and is the government’s preferred measure, was steady at 2.1%.
