Drug testing is a waste of time

Employers are wasting millions on testing and sacking workers for drug and alcohol use, according to Australian government research.

A worldwide review of laws and practices carried out by the Australian Safety and Compensation Council found “little clear evidence on the links between drug use and absenteeism, low productivity, poor performance and accidents at work”.

The research is cited in a Hazards magazine investigation, available at www.hazards.org/testingtimes/impairedthinking.htm#ref
