Acas success

The telephone helpline of the Acas employment advisory, conciliation and arbitration service helped to avoid around 16,000 employment tribunals last year, according to research commissioned by the organisation. Acas says this translates into a saving of £120 million.

The study found that of the 233,000 employees who contacted the Acas helpline in 2006, around a quarter (23%) had considered a tribunal claim before calling. However, almost a third of these (30%) decided against this course of action as a result of the information they received.
