Union leaders win re-election

Members of the 356,000-strong shopworkers’ union USDAW and of the 102,000-member professionals’ union Prospect have re-elected their incumbent general secretaries.

John Hannett, who was first elected leader of USDAW in 2003, said he was “delighted to be re-elected by an increased margin”. He received 59% of the votes in the two-horse race. However, Robbie Segal, a Tesco worker running under the Broad Left banner, caused surprise by pulling in 41% of the vote. Turnout in the election was relatively low, at 13.2%.

Paul Noon was re-elected unopposed for a third term as general secretary of Prospect.
