Firms refuse to fund cancer research

Electronics companies are refusing to fund new research that could highlight the cancer risks in the industry.

They have rebuffed demands to pay for the £600,000 report over four years, despite requests from the Health and Safety Executive and the government to contribute.

Unite general union, which has pledged £60,000 towards the study, calculates that it would cost the industry £6 a year for each of its employees to fund the research.
