Warning over DVLA

Proposals to close down the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency’s network of 39 local offices and centralise their work at DVLA headquarters in Swansea have been condemned by the PCS civil service union and the URTU union for road haulage.

The unions have warned that up to 1,200 jobs will be lost and the closure of the local offices will mean no face-to-face contact with DVLA staff.

URTU is calling for support by signing an e-petition at www.savethedvla.co.uk, and the PCS is considering balloting all the union’s members in the Department for Transport to see if they will support joint industrial action against cuts and privatisation.
