New inflation measure
A new official measure of inflation could be introduced by February next year.
The Office for National Statistics will consult over the creation of a version of the Consumer Prices Index (CPI) that includes housing costs, to be called CPIH.
The existing CPI measure does not reflect the many costs of being a “house” owner, which make up 10% of people’s average spending.
