Membership stable in Poland

Figures from the research organisation CBOS in Poland suggest that union membership in the country has been broadly stable for the last six years.

The figures for 2012 are based on a relatively small sample of 1,015 adults and only 420 employees and therefore need to be treated with some caution.

However, they indicate that some 12% of employees are union members. Membership is split between three main organisations — Solidarnosc with 5%, OPZZ with 3% and Forum with 2%. In addition, 2% of employees are members of other unions.

Overall, 35% of employees are in workplaces where unions are present.

The proportions are highest in education and health (61%) and public administration (55%).
