Political fund

Members of the GMB general union have voted by 95% in favour of retaining the union’s political fund.

The union noted that this is the fourth time members have voted to keep the fund since the law requiring such ballots was introduced. “Once again the GMB has had to spend members’ money conducting a political fund ballot asking a question we know the answer to,” said the union’s national political officer, Cath Speight.

The RMT transport union is urging its members to vote “yes” in their political fund ballot, reminding them that the fund is “not about affiliation to political parties”. The union was expelled from the Labour Party in 2004.
