Italy’s largest union calls strike

CGIL, the largest union confederation in Italy, is pressing ahead with an eight-hour general strike on 5 December in protest against changes in the country’s labour law being introduced by the centre-left government of Matteo Renzi.

The formal decision was taken by CGIL’s executive committee on 12 November. However, it looks as though CGIL will be the only one of Italy’s three main union confederations taking action.
