Global women's strike

A global women's strike is being called for 8 March, International Women's Day, by the International Wages for Housework Campaign. The strike call originated in Ireland from the National Women's Council almost a year ago. Women there are campaigning for 8 March to be a paid public holiday.

Strike organisers are hoping that women in trade unions will use the day to advance their demands as workers who are often underpaid and frequently carrying the load of a double day of unwaged work at home in addition to low-waged work. Men are also being asked to support the women on strike. For more information, including a model resolution for trade union branches, contact the Global Women's Strike.
