Rate target

Wolfgang Katzian, head of the ÖGB Austrian union confederation, has set a target of ¤2,000 (£1,740) a month as the minimum rate in all collective agreements.

This is around 18% higher than the previous ¤1,700 target set in 2018 and, as Katzian points out, things have changed since then and are likely to change further next year. Inflation in Austria is currently 9.1% (August).

Collective agreements cover some 98% of Austrian employees. An estimated 180,000 employees (4.5% of the total) currently earn less than ¤1,700 a month.
