The law on trade union recognition took effect last June and unions

now have a clearer idea of how employers are responding. In some

cases employers are simply facing up to overwhelming ballots in

favour of recognition while in others they are using a range of tactics

to thwart union campaigning.

This conference will bring together union activists and experts to

discuss how successful unions have been in taking advantage of the

new law and what scope employers have to block recognition.

Speakers will include:

Mark Briggs researcher with finance union UNIFI

Stephen Cavalier senior partner with employment lawyers Thompsons

Jeremy Dear national officer NUJ journalists' union

Duncan Keys assistant secretary Prison Officers' Association

Dr Sian Moore researcher at the Centre for Economic Performance working on the Leverhulme project on the future of trade unions

There will also be speakers from the ISTC community union and TUC.
