Northern Ireland union membership
Total Northern Ireland (NI) membership of trade unions fell by 2,712 during 2001, to 241,446. This total includes NI membership in unions based in NI, Great Britain and the Republic of Ireland. Membership of the four NI-based unions increased by 1,045 to 44,998.
Seventy-five per cent of all NI members belong to Great Britain based unions, 19% to NI based unions and 6% to those based in the Republic.
