News from LRD

Current surveys

Labour Research Department (LRD) publications wouldn't be the same without the workplace-based information supplied by the LRD's many local affiliates and contacts.

Two key surveys are underway at the moment.

Safety reps

Later this year, the Department will publish a new booklet, Safety reps in action, outlining the crucial role played by safety reps in the workplace.

LRD is also planning to create a database of policies negotiated by safety reps, to help share good practice.

We would be very grateful if you could send us any of the following:

* health and safety policies on particular issues that union safety reps have negotiated in your workplace;

* examples of health and safety improvements won in your workplace because of union safety reps' intervention;

* examples of industrial action over health and safety matters; and

* examples of how you have used enforcement agencies such as the HSE to secure improvements.

Please send material to Paul Hampton at LRD, e-mail: [email protected]

Information and consultation

The other survey covers the new information and consultation regulations which came into effect in April.

LRD is keen to find out if you have negotiated an information and consultation agreement with your employer. Or if your employer has imposed its own arrangements.

LRD has recently published a booklet on the new regulations, and would like to hear about your experiences, good or bad.
