Workplace Report November 2020

Pay and prices

AWEs showing welcome growth

Our data shows no change or even a slight decrease in pay settlements in September but, with much bargaining suspended, the figures are over-influenced by older pay deals.

In September, the median pay increase in collectively agreed settlements from LRD’S Payline database was down slightly to 2.5%.

Official figures for average weekly earnings in August for regular pay in the whole economy rose by nearly a whole percentage point to 1.7%, Public sector pay is down from 4.1% to 3.8% but growth in the private sector is improving and now stands at 1.2%. Construction is up but remains in negative territory at -3.0%, and a similar picture for wholesale, retail, hotels and restaurants at -0.7.
