Dying to work
The Royal Mail is the latest employer to sign up to the TUC’s Dying to Work charter which sets out an agreed way in which employees will be supported, protected and guided throughout their employment, following a terminal diagnosis.
The campaign was set up to fight for additional employment protection for terminally ill workers and stop a loophole in the law which allows employers to dismiss the dying due to their illness.
The CWU communication workers’ union worked with the TUC to get the Royal Mail on board. Royal Mail is the biggest employer to sign up so far taking the number of employees covered by the charter to 534,000.
