Grady re-elected

Jo Grady has won a second term as general secretary of the University and College Union (UCU) after narrowly winning the four-horse race. The other candidates were Vicky Blake, Ewan McGaughey and Saira Weiner.

Although Grady got the most votes on the first round of voting, it was not by a big enough margin under the UCU’s single transferable electoral system to win on the first round.

In the final round, after the eliminated candidates’ second and third preferences were transferred, she beat second-placed McGaughey by 7,758 votes (50.6%) to 7,576 (49.4%). The turnout was 15.1%.
