BT facilities deal favours lowest paid

Members of the CWU union working for BT’s in-house facilities services provider BTFS have voted to accept a pay deal weighted towards the lowest paid staff.

A complex agreement, covering some 1,700 employees, is based on a 1.8% pay pot increase split between a 1% general increase and 0.8% allocated to performance-related pay (PRP).

However, staff currently earning below the voluntary Living Wage set by the Living Wage Foundation will be brought up to that level – currently £8.45 an hour outside of London. This represents a 2.42% increase for largely cleaners and security staff. There is also an increase to the pay band for ground maintenance staff.

In addition, annual leave entitlement will rise to 22 days for all BTFS staff, with those already on that level receiving a £100 lump-sum cash payment.

CWU assistant secretary Sally Bridge said the union had obtained a number of important commitments from the company for further negotiations, including on revisions to the pay structures for security staff and some engineering groups.
