UNISON’s clarion call heralds bargaining deal

Public services union UNISON has reached a voluntary collective bargaining agreement with the UK’s largest housing association, Clarion, which employs around 4,000 staff. The move follows the merger of Circle Housing and Affinity Sutton, with the new group running over 130,000 homes in England.

The deal allows UNISON to negotiate on pay and conditions and also gives the union seats on the association’s staff council alongside other elected members. The arrangement was devised following an independent staff survey conducted for Clarion which asked about their preferences for representation.

UNISON general secretary Dave Prentis said it “shows Clarion’s willingness to work with UNISON to ensure employees’ views are represented at the highest level”.
