Equalities assessment
An equalities impact assessment (EIA) by London Underground (LU) shows that planned job cuts, reorganisation and ticket office closures would hit women, black and minority ethnic (BME), lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans (LGBT) and younger workers the hardest, says the RMT rail union.
Together with the TSSA union, the RMT took 48-hour strike action last month over plans to close all 260 ticket offices. A second strike was suspended for talks.
The union had called on LU to withdraw its proposals after reporting that the EIA shows that women, LGBT and younger workers may be left vulnerable to abuse through enforced lone working.
The RMT said the assessment also showed that BME staff would be disproportionately affected by the proposals, “with not a single tick in the “Positive Impact” column.
