Only 9% of firms offer menstrual support

Just 9% of employers offer menstrual support to their staff, a poll for online magazine Employee Benefits has found. Two-thirds (66%) make no provision, and a quarter of respondents say they are considering it.

Last month the Spanish government announced that it is likely to approve plans which will allow women who suffer from severe period pain to take leave for up to three days a month. According to Employee Benefits, the draft reform will make Spain the first country in Western Europe to offer guaranteed time off for those experiencing their periods; currently only Japan, South Korea, Indonesia, and Zambia grant such leave.
