Campbell Christie

Tributes have poured in for former Scottish TUC general secretary Campbell Christie, who died on 28 October aged 74.

Christie was leader of the STUC from 1986 to 1998, during what the STUC described as “the brutal policies of the Thatcher and Major governments”.

Current STUC general secretary Grahame Smith described Christie as “one of Scotland’s most outstanding trade union and civic leaders” who was “comfortable on the shop floor and in the boardroom”.
