Joblessness edges up

Under the Labour Force Survey count, unemployment rose by 7,000 to 2.52 million in three months ending January 2013. The rise was mainly due to more women being out of work.

However, the unemployment rate was unchanged at 7.8%.

Unemployment under the claimant count, which includes only those people claiming Jobseeker’s Allowance, fell by 1,500 to 1.54 million in February.
