Pay offer follows indefinite strike

As Labour Research went to press, the PCS public and commercial services union had been made aware of a pay offer by the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) in an ongoing contractor dispute over pay.

Workers employed by contractors ISS and Aramark in catering and cleaning at BEIS have been campaigning for the London Living Wage (LLW) and union recognition. They had been on indefinite strike since 15 July.

According to BEIS minister Andrea Leadsom, the pay offer appears to be in line with the LLW of £10.55 an hour.

PCS general secretary Mark Serwotka said the union would have to wait to see the details of the offer.

He added: “This is a welcome development and shows that strike action and determination makes a difference.”
