Learning prize awarded

Royal College of Midwives learning rep Afshan Ali has won the TUC Union Learning Rep Award for her work with members of the South Tees Trust Branch of her union. Members of her branch include maternity support workers, midwives and senior managers, and Ali is keen to ensure that the learning needs of all are met.

The award, announced at TUC Congress, came during a very difficult period following the Covid pandemic, which had led to all the committee members except her standing down. But she worked hard to recruit new members and single-handedly promoted an important pay campaign at a challenging time.
